I mean, I’m not sure what seals have to do with magick. They don’t strike me as being the most magickal of things, though I know that the energy of any type of flora or fauna has its place in someone’s practice. It could be because I haven’t really ever met one in person, but I don’t kn–
Admittedly, I was not looking forward to today. I don’t really use seals (of either type) in my practice and wasn’t sure how I’d go about trying it. This month is nothing if not an attempt to expand my horizons a little, so I did some homework.
I’m familiar with magic squares and sigil creating, less so with things like planetary seals. While sigils are used to invoke, seals are used to suppress. You might use a sigil to call forth the positive aspects of something, while a seal holds the negative aspects at bay. Simple enough. I can work with this.
I’ve had a number of directions I want to move forward in– I want to be more active, and I know what’s holding me back. I’d like to share my blog with more people, and I know what’s holding me back. I have a short list of desires, and I know what’s keeping me from each. A seal seems like a pretty good way to push back against the things working against me as I work to improve my situation. Cool.
So, about the negative aspects of planets. Every planet has positive and negative attributes. Jupiter might bring abundance, but that abundance isn’t going to help much if its wastefulness means you spend it as fast as you earn it. The sun may bring friendship and confidence, but it won’t matter if people are put off by arrogance.
I’d rather not get into the specifics of what I’m doing, but it pretty much boils down to placing the appropriate seal, herbs, and stones into a bag to keep around me. Making small packets of herbs, stones, and petitions is something I’m very familiar with, so incorporating a planetary seal into this seems like the easiest and most effective way for me to explore this area of magick.
Do you use planetary seals on a regular basis? How do you incorporate them into your practice?
