As an allergy sufferer, my home is pretty much all hard surfaces. If I don’t sleep on it, it’s probably wood, metal, glass, or tile. Needless to say, we go through a lot of surface cleaner.
I like to try to DIY my cleaning products whenever I can, not only for the sustainability aspect but because I very, very easily get migraines from a lot of commercial products (Seriously– ask my S.O. about the time he accidentally brought home scented garbage bags). So, when I heard about a DIY window cleaner that was ammonia-free, safe for surfaces other than glass, and cost roughly a tenth of the price of leading brands like Windex, I was on that like white on rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm in Svalbard.
It’s a super simple recipe, too. Check it out:
Your Best Digs even tested it out compared to Windex and other top-rated cleaners, and it performed admirably well. You can see their analysis (as well as the chemistry of window cleaning) here.
